The Basics of Skincare Every Female Should Know

Some females are gifted with naturally perfect skin while some might struggle to function in their everyday lives due to the vast amounts of acne and other skin problems that affect them.
Good looking skin is not simply a matter of Your DNA, in fact your daily habits have a big impact on your skin and on the psychological aspect related to it. Here are some tips for taking care of your skin.

1. Always wash your face.

While it might seem like a tedious and annoying task, washing your face is one of the most important parts of taking care of your skin. Wash your face in the morning and in the evening, this will help get rid of the grime that has settled on your skin throughout the day. It is also important to remember to use lukewarm water when washing your face instead of hot water. Hot water can make pores more open and allow for easier penetration of dirt and oil into your skin. It is also important to use a mild cleanser when washing your face, this will help prevent drying of the skin while still getting rid of impurities.

2. Moisturize.

Once you have washed your face it is time to put on some moisturizer, again continue using lukewarm water when applying any type of cream on your face. Use only a thin layer of cream and pat it onto your skin instead of rubbing, this will help reduce irritation and damage to the skin.

3. Avoid touching your face too much.

While we all do it at some point or another (I know I’m guilty for this) but constantly touching and picking at your face can lead to pimples and black heads, another reason not to pick at your face is that it increases the risk of developing scars. A good way to cut down on touching your face is by applying some hand cream before you leave home so you don’t have the urge to touch your face as much throughout the day.

4. Toning.

After you’ve cleansed and moisturized your face, it is time to tone. Toning helps tighten pores and make them look smaller which results in a slight brightening of the skin. Use any astringent (toner) like witch hazel or rose water instead of using expensive skin toners that are on the market now.

5. Exfoliate.

Exfoliation can be done in many different ways, you can use a scrub, loofa sponge or simply wash your face with oatmeal. By exfoliating once or twice per week you will help remove dead skin cells and open clogged pores which in turn helps reduce acne breakouts and blackheads.

6. Use Sunscreen.

This might seem a bit obvious to some but constantly forgetting to apply sunscreen can lead to sun damage and skin discoloration. Always remember to use SPF 15 or higher, stay out of the sun during peak hours which is from 10 am – 2 pm and always wear sunglasses when you’re outside for extended periods of time.

7. Treat your skin with serums and moisturizers.

To reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles you can use a Vitamin A cream, these creams stimulate collagen production which in turn helps stop the skin from sagging. To treat dark circles under your eyes apply a preparation with vitamin K or green tea extract, applying any almond or olive oil on your face is also highly recommended as it helps hydrate and nourish your skin.

8. Give yourself a facial every night.

If you follow the steps above on how to take care of your skin you should not need to go out and pay money for facials, all you need is some milk (whole or non-fat) and sugar. Use one tablespoon of milk and two tablespoons of sugar and mix together in a small bowl, apply this to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.

Now that you know the basics of taking care of your skin it is time to try them out and see if they work for you, it might take a while before your skin starts to improve but be patient and most importantly have fun with it!
